If you have kids you might want to be near other kids. Some of those places are out there...

I like Fairfax Station area. Some of the areas get really far out there though. IDK how close you want to be to the schools. It's kind of a weird boundary line for the town too.
Depending on where you're looking in Fairfax Station you might as well consider some areas of West Springfield and Burke for example that might be zoned for the same schools.

We are what you would consider the more "rural" part of Fairfax Station. 5ac, well and septic. FCPS schools (LB, Robinson, or SOCO), so not bad choices there, something for everyone. We are definitely in an older home and knew that when purchasing, but we wanted the neighborhood, the land and the feeling of country when still in the middle of the county! Both spouse and I grew up in the Burke/Springfield area and lived there prior to buying this house. Wouldn't change a thing!

Some of Fairfax Station out toward Clifton is pretty rural. You might have well water and septic there, so be aware when you’re looking at homes if you don’t want that. Some is more of a standard suburb, but more of a “bedroom community” feel vs. other areas that have some shopping centers, office buildings, etc. The big neighborhood in Fairfax Station (the non-rural part) is Crosspointe. It’s very nice with newer and larger homes than you’ll find in many areas of Fairfax County. It’s in the process of turning over from older homeowners and empty nesters to new, younger families. I live near there and always thought it was nice, but it’s becoming pretty desirable now and homes go fast and are now out of our price range sadly!

If you’re currently zoned for Lyles Crouch, you’ll be fine. Everyone I know who has a kid at GW is happy. If you’re leaving for a bigger home and more rural, then you’re definitely not going to be happy in Old Town.

We have friends who live there. Nice homes, but unpretentious people.

I think it’s lovely. The location didn’t quite work for us, but I covet some of the homes I see over there. I love the feel of Ffx Station.

Fairfax Station is kind of a catch-all name for everything on the west side of the Fairfax County Parkway that isn't Clifton, Centreville, Springfield or Lorton. Plus a small pocket east of the parkway and west of 123.

Not sure about the foreclosures, other than there are some big expensive estates out there, so it's harder to find someone to sell to if the owner gets in trouble financially.

Clifton is cute and has a little town area. FairfaxStation is just an area that is partly Fairfax/Burke/Springfield/Lorton.
