I have blind spot warning in my new Toyota. I was skeptical about bells and whistles, not having had a new car in a decade, but I really like the BSW. It doesn't beep, just flashes a little icon in the side mirror, and I very quickly got used to noticing it. I don't find it obtrusive. It reliably catches bicyclists, too.

BSW is one of a package of safety features recommended by Consumer Reports to be standard. I'd get anything they say should be standard.

I had blind spot warning lights on a Volvo. I hated them for city traffic. They were constantly flashing and a total distraction. They're useful on non-congested highways, I suppose. My current car doesn't have blind spot lights, and I'm fine with that. I'd probably disable them on a future car.

My chrysler pacifica has a blind spot warning right on the side mirror. I love it. My other car has one on the dash and I hate it—I don’t want to look down at the dash before changing lanes.

Blind Side Warning - Always going to take a quick glance out the window before changing lanes anyway, but why not have the milliseconds that come with knowing if there is a vehicle in my blind spot before even considering a lane change?

Knee Airbags - both my wife and I have had knee injuries from car accidents under identical circumstances. Steering wheel air bag goes off but collision momentum results in lower body still moving, hence knees bang into bottom of instrument panel. Thinking that knee airbags would prevent these types of injuries.

Interested in what other people think about these two features? Even in Subaru's, blind side warning is not standard on the Legacy so getting both these capabilities is a challenge and people seem to discount them.

My new Jeep has blind side warning. Thought I'd hate it but don't. Knee airbags I can live without. Of course, I also live without doors when the weather permits, so you might discount my view there accordingly.

OP: was also looking at a used Acura RDX and it only had blind side warning if one of the special packages was ordered - not on the base. Interestingly, a lot of the Fords and Jeeps have both features, and neither is a luxury brand. Don't necessarily need an SUV so the Legacy is a possibility.

Blind side warning is really nice. Knee Air bags are a good idea but if they don't come on the car, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes you can custom order if the manufacture has it and its not on the vehicle you want. I had to special order mine to get the safety features. When I looked at Hyundai the dealer was not to open to special ordering though and they didn't have a lot of extra options.
