My sibling and I both have plenty of money (including inherited) but neither of us would go over $100-ish for a gift. Probably more like $50. Would be weird otherwise. So it’s really about your particular family culture.

I just spent just under $200 for my brother’s baby. I got a keekaroo (I love it for my own kid) and swaddles from their registry and onesies from our college and his fav. Sports team. Just adding bc not everyone should feel obligated to get big ticket item but if you can/want to is lovely.

We make 300k and siblings probably make 100k. We give what we want to give. I don’t care what they gave me. I got married very young at 24. We are the oldest and not one sibling even gave us a gift (they were too young). We still gave them lovely gifts.

I do try to match Christmas gift amounts though since we open all together. We spend about $100 per couple and they spend that on us. It’s enough so that gifts are nice but not extravagant.

What about when siblings incomes differ greatly? My siblings don’t make much money and gave $50 shower gifts. Should the richer sibling reciprocate with the equivalent amount or spend a lot more (HHI is 10x’s siblings for context).

I am the only one in my family with kids. My family is generous to me. My brother gifts me $1000 for each child, and I have 2 kids. He does not bother to look at my baby registry.

I would do 500-750 depending on what’s on their registry.

Totally okay. Normal shower guests will spend $50 but the grandmas, moms and sisters spend more. And it's normal. They're more connected to the baby.

I think it’s fine as long as it’s in like with what they’ve given you. If they give $100 shower gifts, then no.

If you’re in a good financial position, you should buy one of the big ticket items like a stroller or car seat.

What about offering to buy their carseat? My sister bought me my son's first carseat and that was frabkly one of the most useful and awesome gifts ever.

I also make baby blankets for my nephews but that's a personal thing I do in addition to gifts.

I always keep conversations with my brother open. My nephews were the first grandkids on both sides so they got a lot of stuff. I try not to overwhelm his apartment.

For a sibling $250-750. But we each only have one. I can imagine buying a stroller or a crib for a sibling. Similar amount that a parent would spend.

Alas our kids will likely never have cousins.

For a sibling I would spend $100-200. For friends I land somewhere between $35-75, depending on how close we are.

We are financially secure and so is my sibling and spouse. They’ve always been generous with gifts. What range would you think is appropriate to spend for a baby shower gift? This is their first baby and my first and probably only niece/nephew.
