Pleated down on the front?

Yes, so you aren’t catching stuff in the mask. Imagine walking outside, leaves and pollen are drifting down from the trees, you don’t want them lodged in your mask. That’s how I help myself remember the right way to put them on.

+1

I don't think it matters, as long as the fit is the same. However, I would recommend getting those stick on nose wires - they really do make the mask much more comfortable and better fitting.

I actually just bought some of these -- do you put them on the inside or the outside of the mask?

Ha, I'm not actually a stick on nose wire expert! My masks had a pocket so I stuck them to the inside of the mask then sewed them on to reinforce. They've held up well in the wash, but we bought a bunch of masks when I thought we were going back to school, so don't wash them super often because we can rotate them for the not super frequent times we're around people and need to wear them. I will say they made a big difference in fit and comfort, so worth figuring out if your masks don't have them already.

Where do you get stick on nose wire? Link, please. Can I throw them in laundry machine to wash with stick on nose wire?

They're all over Amazon these days - I don't have recommendations for a specific seller, but I imagine they're pretty similar (and cheap, so NBD if you have to order a second set). They stick on, so the adhesive probably wouldn't last indefinitely in the regular washing machine, but depending on the mask you could stitch it to the inside (or outside) and make it permanent.
