Ask them what they expect you to do. Ask them. Discuss it. Discuss it when they issue an invitation. These are friends. If there's no plan you can agree on, of course you don't travel to their house.

I once used the bathroom at a friends house. She had Clorox wipes and I wiped down everything on my way out, and I wore a mask.

I would do this too. Wear a mask, and it’s a good chance to wash hands.

Wear a mask to use the bathroom. Then the homeowner cleans bathroom after guests leave. I swear some people act like the coronavirus is some sort of magical, indestructible illness. Just take precautions.

I would be okay with a friend coming in to use the bathroom, but I'm also okay with friends setting that boundary. In your situation, I would just be direct that the bathroom issue is why you are declining.

We made one exception when we visited friends who have a lake house last month for the day. Since it was a long drive out there, they cleaned a bathroom that was near the back entrance to their house before we came and then closed the door that separated that bathroom from the rest of the house. We used that bathroom during the day while we were there, and then cleaned/disinfected before we left. I think they probably didn't use it for a day or two after we left just to be extra cautious.

Otherwise, we don't use anyone else's bathroom. We arrange the few visits we have so that our kids go at home before we go over, and then we limit their fluid intake while we're there. We only stay an hour or so, tops.

We figure we can always loosen these rules if things get better (especially if testing gets faster, in which case we might start getting tested periodically and basing socializing around that), but it would be very hard to make it work with our kids if we sometimes break these rules. Even the lake house thing was an ordeal to explain to our kids and honestly, in retrospect I'm not sure I'd do it again anytime soon because being in someone else's house was extremely stressful.

Yes ok to just using bathroom with a mask. I would just clean it after.

You can use my toilet if you wear a mask.

Nope. I don’t use bathrooms not my own and I don’t allow guests inside to use ours.

If you’re going over to friends’ houses and hanging outdoors, are you using their bathrooms?

Our good friends live about 25 mins away and keep inviting us over to swim and hang out in their backyard. The catch is that they don’t feel comfortable letting us use their bathroom. I completely get it and don’t love the idea of going into someone else’s home, but at the same time, it’s a bit too far us to go and stay for a few hours without having a bathroom to use - especially the kids.

Just curious how others are handling this issue.
