No. But my children are in late elementary and middle school. I can work remotely and we have relatives in two different states, both opening. One place is upstate NY with lots of space and land. We also looked into private schools opening here. My kids did not want to change schools no matter what or where. The social implications and anxiety of switching schools was horrible for both. Also, DH and I don’t think these places can safely open and we don’t know which area will be a hotspot once they do. We are staying here and they can continue to see their current friends outside in a safe, controlled way.

Just curious, how will your kids be able to attend a public school in a district where your parents own a home? Public schools typically need proof of your address. For example, rent payments, utility payments, etc.

I work at a school that is open now, and I came home from my first day pretty down. It feels like a totally different place with half the kids home (we are hybrid). It is very quiet in the building. Students eat in small groups. There is no noise or laughter. I bet we will have a lot of students who will end up switching to DL.

No. They sound miserable and scary. Rigid and anxiety-inducing.

My daughter had a week of Kindergarten roundup that worked under the constraints school would have if it hadn’t switched to virtual just before opening. They had to stay in their seats, bathroom breaks were controlled, masks unless eating, and snacks were eaten outdoors with strict spacing. My daughter proclaimed it the most week of her life. For my kid, nothing could be less fun than doing virtual school with me in a small, loud house. She said exactly what PP above said: “anything would be better than staying home.”

it will likely be safer than camps. He will likely learn more in school 2 days a week and DL three than DL 5 days a week. Not sure about fun. He won't know any of the kids there, will he in camp here. But note camp likely won't be as safe since they won't be distancing and mask use *may* be less consistent.

It will be better than being home, I think.

We do masked playdates. My kid hates a mask but once she's busy playing its easily forgotten. I think / hope school will be the same.

No, but safe is more important than fun. I do think it will suck for some students, but maybe we’re focusing too much on school being fun rather than education giving us critical skills for life.

We have an opportunity to attend public school in my parents district in NY. I trust that the school will be safe, but will it be better or worse than just doing DL. Alternatively, we could stay home and do camps/DL or just stay with my parents and do DL. I was all set with camp and a part-time nanny but she just got another job

DH and I both work remotely now.
