The kids and I have much more time off than DH and they are a little older and easier. We are doing more without him. He’s okay with it. Kids and I don’t love it, but it’s better than staying home.

My parents never did but my father could set work boundaries and was a real leader of the family, involved, active parent.

My spouse is not. We only vacation with extended family or others or I am ready to do everything if just us. He prefers to work and slate in Disney Dad time when and if he can. He has come days later for many holidays and vacations or now skips them entirely to “catch up on work” or “get ahead at work.”

Does this bother your kids?

The thing you don't do is make a big deal about it.
And you don't go-on-and-on about the trip. Because no one wants to hear alot about a trip they weren't on.

^^ Let me add that after six months of no vacations and being with my husband every night a few days with my GF's would be fun.

I vacation with DS and without DH usually at least once a year. (Pre-pandemic...). DH doesn’t like to travel and isn’t much fun on Vacation.

1 x per year without kid

1-2 times with kids

People who never vacation without their spouse my stay together more but it’s clear there is something chronically wrong if you can never be away from your spouse. Of course you are not divorcing but it is also so unhealthy.

I am a teacher so I vacation without my spouse all the time. I am incredibly lucky to have lots of time off while he only gets three weeks. Works for both of us!

I was going to say never, but I have done a few girls weekends and left the kids with my DH.

I do a girls trip once a year. Otherwise we vacation together.

Never. Married 24 years.

My parents never too separate vacations either.

I think separate beds and separate vacations spell trouble. I know I may be in the minority.

Absolutely, esp if a workaholic spouse or argumentative one or one that can’t catch a kid safely ever. Plus the ones that need to eat 24/7, I cannot tell you how embarrassing traveling worth that has been. Butt of all jokes now.
