Disturbing. My friend (female) used to do this to her daughter (in a see an ass, give it a slap way) and her daughter really didn't like it. Not okay.

It is inappropriate. Like Joe Biden kissing his granddaughter full on the mouth kind of inappropriate. Anyone doing those things needs permission from the person it's being done to.

Is this new behavior or something that has been the norm in your family?

Need more context. There's a difference between slapping butt when walking by and a back of the hand slap to tell them to bug off or move out of the way.
