The language in the reopening plan implies that the speciality programs will handle DL differently. I look forward to attending the town hall to get more information.

There is a town hall meeting for parents of kids in specialty programs, scheduled for August 12th. Perhaps it may be helpful for those who are unsure whether to start/continue with these programs.

OP here.
Immersion schools have all instruction in a foreign language (French or Spanish). There are also the partial immeraion programs at Chavez (Spanish) and Paintbranch (Mandarin). I would expect that would be extremely difficult for parents who are not somewhat fluent in those languages.
My daughter is in a TAG middle school and we don't want to lose our spot so we are sticking with DL.
If my kid was a rising K student into French Immersion I would probably give up the seat and go toy neighborhood school.

PP here. I understand that the plan is universal, but if it's not working for my child I won't continue. I'll pull him out and homeschool. It wasn't horrible at the end of last year, but it certainly wasn't amazing. I don't expect that it will be any easier this year, and I think we could be more productive and efficient homeschooling. But I'm not going to jump the gun on that because I do want to see if it's different.

Being at a specialty school has definitely made this time more stressful. I have a 3rd grader in a TAG school. If he was in a neighborhood school I would absolutely homeschool for this year and re-enroll next year. But I definitely don't want to lose his spot, and I feel stuck.

As it is, I have a feeling that there's a good chance we'll pull out mid-year and have to scramble to homeschool at that point. I'll definitely have some curriculum already chosen just in case.

I'm wondering if the 100% Distance Learning decision has impacted parent's decisions on sending their kids to some of the Specialty Programs. Especially if they are just starting at an Immersion school.
