As an adoptee I’ve always wanted to adopt. It’s a way that I’ve always wanted to grow my family through adoption, of a pre-teen or older (the same age I was adopted).

I’ve never considered egg donation, too many waiting children for me to consider that option.~

But i do know adoption isn’t for everyone, but I do enjoy you taking time to even consider.

What the heck does this even mean? Also donor sperm, in various forms, has been around forever. It’s no different, except sexism.

We considered both options carefully. Also took an adoption course that helped as per previous poster. We ultimately settled on adoption and have 3 wonderful DC. I have never regretted it and only wish I had done it sooner and wasted less time on infertility treatments.

I think that adoption is a beautiful thing. Personally, I would probably try donor egg first. There is a biological family connection if you can use your partner’s sperm, you get to experience pregnancy and breastfeeding, and you control the gestational environment which has a significant impact. A personal choice!

In 3.1 you meet the Foxes, a couple who are dealing with this exact question: what next? Donor egg vs adoption....They are in every episode in the 3rd season.

We choose adoption. It was a long, hard, expensive and difficult process. For some, it can be quick and easy and for others, not.

It may be useful to move this to the infertility forum, OP. Many of us have walked this road.

My DH and I have a child with special needs. When we could not conceive again on our own, we considered adoption but ultimately felt that we were not equipped to deal with the unknowns of adopting a child after birth due to the potential for FAS and similar issues. We opted to use donor eggs to eliminate that issue.

When you do DE at SG you have to have a counseling session. Basically you are advised to tell your kid from the get go that there was a third person involved. I have no idea how people see adoption and DE as similar. In one case you are steering and in the other you are along for the ride.

Where did you find the adoption course? Just curious.

We took an adoption course so that we could really look into potential issues. It was very helpful.
