For a second grader that is an advanced reader, LA would include:
Writing
Grammar
Spelling
Reading
Vocabulary
You don’t have to do them all each day!
Writing - how much are they writing now? I LOVE Essentials in Writing for this age. It’s a short DVD lesson followed by a worksheet.
Grammar - the gold standard here is Rod and Staff (note not secular). You would want Level 2. Don’t make your kid write it all out. We usually do about 2/3 orally and I have them write out one exercise. You can change the sentences about farming into sentences about Minecraft and it is generally better received.
Spelling - Rod and Staff also has excellent spelling workbooks. All About Spelling is another great choice but requires a lot of prep time and pieces (whiteboard, letter tiles). Also check out Spelling Workout.
Reading - since they are an advanced reader, download the Mensa K-3 reading list. Let her read some of the titles to herself, and you read some aloud to your kid. Then you can talk about them. When you finish them all, your kid can get the T-shirt. (Big motivator here!)
Vocabulary- I’ve used Sadlier Oxford Vocabulary Workshop which you can get on amazon. Or, you can choose a word from your reading and ask your kid to make an index card defining the word and using it in a sentence. Keep them all alphabetized in a file box. Easy!
Good luck finding the best fit for LA for your little 2nd grader!!!
