Not necessarily harder, it depends on the cat. My cat is on a lot of pills right now and I dip each one in Churu before giving it to him. He thinks it's a treat. He comes running when he hears the pill containers open. There's also pill poppers, and pill pockets.

Ugh, I tried to get the liquid metronidazole in my cat this morning with the syringe. It was terrible - she was so wiggly and I was unsuccessful. This sucks!!

Yes, 7 days. I don't remember fussing much about whether it was with food or not. It didn't seem to matter. He loathed the taste but it did work. They have it available in pill form to avoid the taste issue but mine is a kitten and his dose was so small that cutting the pill in half like I was supposed to was impossible.

OP here. Thank you, PPs. I just gave her a dose - poor baby was frothing at the mouth, and jumping up in the air (I think she was trying to break free of the stream of mucus/froth dangling out of her mouth. She was so upset and freaked out - it must taste awful. I’m supposed to administer it twice a day for 7 days...so six more to go. Ugh.

We had a little older kitty who had persistent digestive issues. We had to administer every other day for the last three years of her life. First, it is a bit messy and sticky. You’ll need to be careful administering and be ready to wipe kitty’s mouth area after dosing. Second, they don’t like it very much - I understand that they find the taste and smell very sour. Third, it works like a charm. You’ll see it within days. Fourth, you’ll rapidly get used to getting the fluid in the monojet and quickly emptying into the back of kitty’s mouth. By the third dose you’ll both have it completely down.

This is a pretty effective med. some veterinary meds can be kind of weak or questionable. But Metronidazole really seems to work like a charm.

PP again. In all but one case I saw improvement in the cat's stool quickly. It will be obvious if it's working or not.

Lots of experience with metronidazole. I never noticed any side effects with my cats except that if you're doing the liquid form, it's very bitter and they don't like it. To the point that you may see a bit of drooling immediately after you give it. It's not uncommon and don't be alarmed. You could offer a treat to chase the taste down.

My cat will be on this med twice a day for a week, for a bout of loose stool. Any side effects I should be worried about?

I admit I’m a Nervous Nellie, after my former cat had a bazillion health issues. It was a roller coaster and I was hoping for a different experience this time around.
