You are cheating her. She must be undocumented because a legal nanny would not take $17/hr for two kids.

Nope, fully documented and we pay taxes etc

I’m not going to say you are cheating her, but I will say she’s an idiot. No smart, educated and experienced nanny is charging $17/hr for one kid, much less 2 kids. No one else probably wanted to hire her and that’s why she took your job.

$25/hr for 1 baby, silver spring. Taxes, good benefits, health insurance.

Frankly, it doesn’t matter what other employers say. What matters are a who will accept your position. Advertise whatever you want, but be prepared to increase it if you don’t like the quality of candidates who respond.

It also matters A LOT where you live. Nannies get paid a lot more in Arlington than in Chantilly. It makes the most sense to ask on your neighborhood list serv what the going rate is for your neighborhood.

Paying $20/hr on the books for an infant with paid vacation and sick time. I lost out on a number of offers I made when I was hiring to nannies who were given better offers. This are tough times, especially for nannies with experience.

There has never been a “going rate” since education and experience comes into the equation but I am assuming rates have gone up across the board due to demand.

I have done some research and gather that nannies in the DC area typically make between $20-$25/hr. + benefits but curious if those rates have shifted given the pandemic situation and supply/demand. What are people finding the rate is for 1 child? 2?
