I read that kids who attend are generally at the lower end of the range. What makes it complicated is I (not OP) have a 3.9 GPA kid unweighted but much lower than expected SAT. To get in I’d think 1300-1500 range submit a 1300 but if it’s a state school maybe not submit so could be considered for honors. IDK. It’s so hard.

NP. What would be the general guidance about this? Only submit if your score is well above the "middle 50%" range? Or submit if it's anywhere within the high end of that range?

For example, if the CDS says a school's middle 50% are in the 1200-1400 range, what would you do if you had a score of 1250? Of 1350? Of 1450?

OP does your DD have APs to submit? If she has all 5’s maybe just submit those.

I wouldn't submit it.

Look at the Common Data Set for the college to see where 1400 falls in the distribution.

It’s amusing that you think 1400 is a low score

Agree with this. Even in normal times for very selective schools that use holistic admissions I don’t think it is it is actually that important, it’s more like a first pass criteria to see if you qualify for further evaluation. Obviously this year schools are well aware of the issues with taking the test and if they’ve gone test optional due to Covid it’s probably much less important. So I would only submit if it helps her app.

Some students haven't been able to take the SAT or ACT even once

This is a question for her college counselor not this Board. She sounds like a smart kid and hard worker. She will do great in life. Regardless of where she goes.

Depends on what the rest of her app looks like, especially grades.

So, DD took SAT in March to try it out. Got 1400. Low for our schools. Expected this. Took SAT prep class one on one. Scoring really well now but can't seem to take the test. Dates keep canceling. Top choices are Notre Dame, Rice, Cornell. Should we submit if we could do better assuming others are in same boat?
