Buy good filters in bulk online. Cheaper than buying a month or two at a time and change them every 60 days or so.

We have two dogs and were amazed the difference in the house (smell, air quality, etc).

Buy the cheap ones and change them monthly- it's what the systems are built for. No I would not add cheesecloth to the equation.

I don’t think it’s a big deal if there’s some hair in your ducts. It’s just going to sit there.

Fiberglass will do fine for hair. We call those pleated filters "furnace killers" for a reason.

this is crazy. you don't have to do anything OP. Just replace your filter every 6 months or so. just make sure the filter is fit tight and correctly.

You're talking about the vents that let air into the room, not the ones that pull air out, right? On the big air returns you should use a commercial filter. I would think the grill would stop most things from falling into the other vents but I also just wouldn't worry about it.

Most concerns about ducts being dirty are a scam from the duct cleaning companies, who are 95% scam.

It could work. Cheesecloth is not as dense. The filters can be pretty bulky.

Recently moved into a house with a forced air system. Previously had baseboard. I have a dog who sheds like crazy - yes I do vacuum every day with the shark pet pro, and brush her - but I am still worried about hair getting into the ducts. I’ve been reading that the filters they sell can restrict airflow and cause furnaces to backfire. Then I read that you can put cheesecloth under your vents. Has anyone tried this? Does it work when you are using both heating and cooling? Or, anyone have any better ideas...
