I think the academic advantages of pods are way overstated and overblown. Most of them seem to be driven by social and childcare needs and most of them are more dangerous from a covid standpoint than an daycare program that uses proper precautions.

$15 per hour? I would not walk out my door to teach for less than $40 per hour and honestly I'd be looking for $60

I honestly think most of these informal pods for lower grades and K sound way more high risk than just sending your kid to the K program or daycare at a licensed place which is keeping classes at the legal limit. At least they have strict policies there for parents not coming in and talking at pick up, sick l😷 DS being home 14 days, etc.

And these pods are not going to be that academic. Mostly motivated by social need (friends) and childcare needs.

Haha! Spot on. The "we're practicing strict social distancing and we expect the underpaid babysitter/tutor/other family to as well" without any kind of explanation of what that means really gets me.

These posts are obnoxious, but people feel they need to pod up because everyone else is, too. We're never going to go back to school of everyone keeps mingling

Hi, we are looking for a pod for our rising second grader. We have no room in our small row house/condo, so we need you to host. Also, if your kids could be native Spanish speakers so they could teach our kids, that would be great. Mandarin would also be fine. We only marginally want to take care of our own kids, let alone yours, so we definitely need to hire someone. That person needs to have an advanced teaching degree and also lead the pod on organic play-based forest adventures. If they could clean up and get dinner started too, that would be helpful. We don’t know which teacher our kid will have yet, and we are cognizant that the other pod families might go to an entirely different school, so we need someone who can manage the logistics of 4-5 separate learning activities going on simultaneously. We haven’t really thought about how much it would cost to hire a masters-level educator/nanny/cook/maid/forest adventurer, but we are thinking $15/hr? Oh, we also have 3 year old who might join in the learning sometimes, depending on our schedule. We need to pod with a family that is completely committed to social distancing. I mean, we go to the store of course, and one spouse goes to the office, and also we do a gym or restaurant here or there. But you should be fully committed. If this sounds like something that would be a good fit, I’ll just leave this Facebook post up and people can chime in, and then I won’t do anything further with your response. Thanks for reading!
