Yes, Teams and Canvas. My principal banned zoom from the outset in the spring. Teams isn't as good for video, but it's getting better. They said over they summer they are going to be able to do 7x7 which means a lot more faces. For the little kids especially I think that is super important.

Teams is accessible through a tablet, I wouldn't necessarily recommend that for certain lessons though.

Clever is accessible I believe but not all apps are such as iReady.

There is a complicated work around. A few teachers did it to at least 20 tablets in the spring to give to students. Wouldn’t recommend it, but technically it is possible if that’s all you have to work with.

We won’t be dropping Teams. It’s part of Microsoft and we paid for it. It’s also one of the most secure platforms. (And I generally hate using Microsoft products.)

Your child already has a Canvas account. Just until now it wasn’t mostly used for teachers. You should be able to log in, though there may not be any “courses” there for you. Seriously, just think of it as a class website. The back end has important features for teachers but the front end for students will likely just look like a simple website.

I’m a DCPS parent (rising K) and I hadn’t heard of Canvas. I hope they drop Teams-it’s terrible and confusing.

I am a DCPS teacher and we were told during end of PD we’ll be using Canvas as the DCPS platform. We did a short preliminary training and I liked it far better than Teams. It can be used together With Teams although that would be unnecessarily confusing for families.

Why we haven’t made a big push to learn it this summer or during that PD, I do not know. We are wasting precious time.

Parents will have to train on it. It’s unprofessional that DCPS has not communicated this to families.

Nothing new that I know of, just an emphasis on using them.

Clever—universal sign in (log in once, access multiple apps/programs)
Canvas—like a teacher website where documents and assignments can be linked
Teams—live video platform
Office 365–all the Microsoft tools (side note: all DCPS kids have up to 5 downloads of the full suite so family can install it for free!)

There are other individual programs you may see used but will all be integrated into Canvas (as long as the teacher follows DCPS guidance). Things like iReady, ST Math, Zearn, Lexia, etc. PlayPosit is one I haven’t used but am looking forward to exploring. It’s interactive videos. So I can go through a lesson and ask kids to respond, they need to respond in the program before moving on, and I get their responses.

For distance learning?
