My kids are now 4 and 7 and they still use it as a grocery cart and a suitcase for all of their imaginary play. But all of the little activities on the busy board part of it never got much attention.

My kid gets more held by stuff like that when he's tired. When he first wakes up? No way. An hour before nap and it totally holds his attention.

Does anything really hold a 2 year old's attention for more than maybe 20 minute increments? No. Not usually.

Not at 2. More like 1-18 months.

We had a small one but saved it for places like Church and restaurants ( Pre Covid) DD liked it because it wasnt out all the time.

You can make them and I think the originated that way but there are TONS available for purchase.
I made one, and my kid didn't care at all, even though he does like his Melissa and Doug board. Immediately regretted the time I spent on the process. If you find a cool one, I say don't be like me---purchase. (Or perhaps, just spend less time on it if you DIY.)

Depends on the kid and how you install it. I made mine from random stuff. It was fun and she liked it.
