Middle kid has something in between that we picked up from an estate sale.

We did most all before covid but put a desk in the office room and upgraded my computer and gave child mine. Only thing we bought was an external camera and eventually we'll get a mike but he just steals dad's.

We’re basically turning our family room, off the kitchen, into a homeschool room. Kept the loveseats & coffee table. Added bookshelves, White boards, calendars, desks for each kid. We are getting a desktop Mac. I want to be able to see the screen from the kitchen.
Thinking about getting Disney Circle to control internet.

OP - are you me? I seriously just posted almost the same post in the Special Needs forum. Here’s what I am doing that’s different:

- moved printer close to DD’s room
- Moved her from dining room table that we have to walk past to get to kitchen, to her own bedroom (this may be a bad idea, I don’t know)?
- I plan to reach out to her advisor and main teachers at the start of the year to say hello, establish rapport, to potentially troubleshoot issues down the road
- schedule in physical activity and outside time; family time.
- Maybe put a more prominent calendar near her desk with her schedule and info?
- I don’t know if a bigger monitor might help instead of the little screen on her laptop?
- got her a desk chair.
- I think I need to monitor her computer use, so she’s not obsessively checking email. Make her close browsers and turn off email notifications.

Also, I think I am going to step back at work. I have the ability to do that and I think this will be the year I do it. I can also ramp up later on once this madness ends!

I got a projector so they could have a bigger screen for movies and lessons.

I recently moved a desk into our guest room and had my daughter choose one of these carts for her supplies. She can do her asynchronous work anywhere she pleases but I would like her to be able to “go” to school and then walk away at the end of the day.

We use this for art supplies but it would be a great homework station if the kitchen table does double duty or they need to move from table to computer desk etc.

We’re outfitting each kid with laptop and headset with mic.
They’ll work in the dining room so I can supervise.

Still need some kind of cubby/organizer system for their supplies and mounds of paper, binders and textbooks.

Will an iPad with keyboard work well enough for virtual? DL in Fcps.

We got a desk so now each kid has one. I’m getting a chrome book for my 3rd grader. Hope to buy hard cover books and/or workbooks.

I’m also hiring a high school study who lives across the street for 3-4 hours of tutoring/class work review.

I would love suggestions on desk/school space set up for virtual learning. 8yo going into 3rd grade. So far I’ve had her in the kitchen at a play table that she has just about outgrown, with a crate next to it for her notebooks and workbooks and such. She has been keeping all markers/crayons/pencils/glue stuff on top of the table. We make her straighten it every other day or so. (We aim for every day.)

We will continue to use our formal dining room for school, as we did all spring. It’s not like we are entertaining.

And yes I do plan to take several driving distance trips this fall. We will do a Sept beach trip and an October trip to the mountains. I’d love to drive to FL when the weather turns cold here but not with their current Covid situation.

For me it was not bad last year because I was not working, but this fall am returning to work full time. Mostly I am trying to prepare myself and lower my expectations. The house will be an unholy mess. My child will likely forget a class meeting or assignment from time to time and that's okay.

We don't have a separate classroom, but the desk is for schoolwork only and is kept clean and organized for that purpose. Will schedule regular recess times with friends, either distanced outdoors or for online games. We have regular clean up day every week where the whole family participates.

Regular days off are a fabulous idea and one of the perks of homeschooling.

So, if you're planning to do all virtual school this fall (or even if you're not), how are you going to manage it? Are you making any changes/buying things your children might need? Thinking about changing up our small office space so it's more like a classroom, with supplies out, etc. Are you planning on taking regular days off to just do something fun with your kids? Going to travel around (will certainly be easier if everything is online)? Signing them up for fall sports?

I'm a working mom and have been home since March like most of us. DH still going out to work. It's been a struggle, but I'm looking for systems to help DC and I thrive. She's not very organized and has ADHD. We've been at each other's throats off and on since corona started. Don't have family nearby. Need to bring some harmony back. Thoughts welcomed.
