Yes this is true. Parents are rightfully concerned.

I agree. Only the covidiots are letting their kids play sports at the moment.

Yes, absolutely ok. Tryouts (and even better, training sessions) are about determining fit, and it goes both ways. The club doesn’t owe you a roster spot and you don’t owe them an acceptance.

Premier AC in Falls Church has spots in the younger age groups.

Big clubs have same number of teams at younger ages. Some may have more in certain age groups. Probably fewer players and perhaps teams at older ages. Might be a health concern, but given the downturn and uncertainty, there is likely an economic impact as well.

Two of my kids at a big club have only 2 subs on each of their teams. One has 13 players on a team that is transitioning to 11v11!

It's OK. If he gets an offer, just say sorry but he accepted elsewhere.

Most clubs are doing rolling tryouts. Just contact them.

Make sure you know what the goals of your child are. Contact a few clubs, attend practice sessions (at least two). Get hard answers like: how many kids on how many teams, what leagues, etc. Find out refund policy (their last season and projected for this season).

Most teams are still holding 1-2 slots available for new players. It's worth contacting some clubs/teams.

Absolutely call or email the coach for the team your child is interested in. Many clubs have open spots and with no group tryouts it’s been first come first looked at for possible spot.

My son plays travel for a team that he isn't entirely happy with. In the spring, we were planning to do some tryouts at other clubs to see if he found a team that suited him better - but then all tryouts were cancelled. Are there any tryouts going on? Should he just email coaches - would any be likely to give him a chance?
