Ugh.


MCPS certainly has tried very hard to make mixed in-school/remote instruction a worse option than 100% remote instruction.

They will likely be presenting survey results at the BOE meeting on Tuesday. If MCPS is similar to PG - their survey showed something like ~45% wanted 100% DL, ~40% wanted hybrid, and ~15% wanted 100% in-person.

I think that if MCPS communicates better the improvements with DL over spring COL and people really think about whether or not hybrid is offering a better option than 100% DL, more people will pick 100% DL. IMO, hybrid should be reserved for students who really cannot be taught over DL (K-2, SPED, ESOL). I think we'll end up there as a community when people assess their own real needs.

Just because they didn’t propose the thing you said on your survey doesn’t mean they didn’t take surveys into account.

I think they had a basic plan in place. The survey confirmed some of the numbers, like how many parents prefer 100% DL over in-person, and how many would need bus transportation (though that question was poorly worded.. I took it to mean do you usually have bus transportation.. which is yes where we are due to distance.. but if you tell me my kid can go to school in person if you drive them, I'll gladly do so)

I think they were looking at the survey results as they came in, so earlier input was more likely to be incorporated.

Based on the BOE meeting, it sounds like deciding whether kids go on Mon-Tues or Thurs-Fri based on last name came from parent input indicating they wanted siblings to go on the same day. I think they also listened to concerns about the importance of those in transition years going early.

This plan is already woefully late. Do you really think they should have waited for a survey to be finished before drafting this? I don't believe they have enough time to implement the hybrid model with school starting in 6 weeks. Preparing mentally for full time DL.

When I saw the survey question, "which grade should go to school buildings first?", I thought it was such a weird question. Now, I understand. If parent input is to be ignored anyway, then why waste everyone's time?


But high school sending in 10th before 11/12th is a massive mistake.


Yes. 10th should be the last year (as someone who has had a kid go through 10th grade.)
