No way to know for sure that you won't have to get work done to pass safety and emissions. But you have time to do it. Three years ago I 'took too long' to transfer my MD tags to VA and nothing happened. This is such a transient area that it seems there is little enforcement (especially now) of this. I see DC and MD (and every other state) tags all over in Va, and so do the cops. Most people never get fined.

Would you buy a used car in DC if you lived in VA? If it's in good shape and passed DC inspections....any issues transferring to VA?
