No option for charter, but chose public because we have math and science kids and our local public school was far better than any nearby private.

We are in DC EOTP. Our neighborhood public school stats are terrible with 3/4ths of the kids performing below grade level.

We were lucky to get into a great charter. If that did not happen, then our back up was private.

No option for charter, but chose private over public for three main reasons. 1. They are big on the old-fashioned reading/ writing/ ‘rithmetics approach that is currently considered out of vogue and non-progressive, but it appeals to me. In case you are wondering, the school is not faith-based. 2. After school care up to 6 pm is included in price, all parent teacher conferences etc. start at 7 pm, and the school seems to be designed for working parents. 3. It allows me to keep the fixed costs low - not having to worry about the school district gives many more housing options.
