Breathing through your nose makes it much easier and less hot. You could try teaching them that but it’s a bit challenging for a little kids to get that.

It’s really hot out. Of course they’re red.

My nearly five year old has no problems wearing it. We live in the city and she’s been wearing a mask when out of home since March. She’s able to put the mask on herself now as well.

My 7yo wore a summer gaiter style mask to camp for two weeks with no problems. They’re very easy to pull up and down and not lose so you should try those. Amazon sells them.

My seven-year-old wears it without complaining, unless it pulls on her ears. Once we ensure proper fit, she'll wear it as long as necessary. I think finding good fit is important.

We don't take our 3 year old to many places that require masks. She's in preschool, but kids aren't required to wear them. We go to playgrounds, but there's almost never anyone else there.

The only time she has to wear one is if she has to go to the bathroom when we're doing outdoor dining. She's pretty good about it, but refuses to cover her nose. I just gave up on it, TBH, and figured covering her mouth is better than nothing.

OP, of course they got hot yesterday. They hadn't acclimated to the heat and wearing a mask. With more time, they'll be fine. Also, it will be cooler when school starts.

My 3 year old had to go to the hospital for a head contusion and thought they mask they gave her made her look extra adorable. Kept it on for hours. Since then she's loved every mask available and will wear them for fun.

On the other hand my 5 and 8 year olds complain about them. They have yet to complain about physical symptoms, however.

I agree. Try the pleated ones for sure. Or just try out different styles and fabrics.

You could try a different style. We have a few masks each. Ones that are denser or fit closer to the mouth/nose can be harder to breath through. Ones that have a vertical pleat or wire (or are otherwise shaped) that keeps the mask from sitting directly on nostrils / mouth feel better for longer wear. I have asthma, too, as well as allergies that go straight to my lungs; I seem to have a harder time wearing a mask on my bad "allergy" days than my husband and son but wearing one that sits further away from the face helps, like medical masks.

Yes, my 5 year old complains. The most he has worn it is about 30 minutes. We don't go places that require it, so we haven't had the need to practice.

I think he'll pick it up in a school setting when everyone else is also doing so though.

My son has asthma and is the one who tolerates his mask the best.

It has nothing to do with asthma but perhaps how hot they run. My daughter is always hot and sweats in her mask, but she knows it’s important and powers through. I’ve told her not to run or jump around too much while she has it on, because I don’t want her to sweat even more.

Stay strong, OP. This is important.

No they’re fine. They wear them all day at ca,p.

You should start practicing wearing them for long periods now.

Otherwise the transition to school will be difficult. He has to get used to it.
