Unless you are UMC and trying to get your kid into an ELITE school, it is a total waste of money. I have a friend who hired a counselor for the DD 4 years ago -- as a rising HS freshman, Counselor laid out HS classes to take, what extra curricular activities, and where to try for leadership. This girl met every metric. State champion in the EC, leadership roles....nearly all A's with a tough load.

She applied to 6 Ivy's, UVA, W & M, and Northwestern....Note there are no safeties..Thankfully, she did get into W & M.

My DD, on the other hand, took what she was interested in (strong load, 10 or 11 AP's), her personality did not lend to leadership, and she did not. EC's were her interests, band and an environmental club (she was kicked out of honor societies because of service hours during band season). She was accepted to every school she applied, and will be attending W &M.

Same outcome, different expenditure.

Anyone heard of this college admissions company called WeAdmit? https://www.weadmit.io/

Attended a presentation a couple of weeks ago. They charge $4.5K for the full package and also have a group package as well. Looks like they use a mix of a college counselor, financial counselor and a junior college counselor who is currently in a reputable college..

I think the rates are about $500-$700 an hour for the highest level ones. Post something on your neighborhood list serve if looking for someone more local-- I know my neighborhood has someone who is lost costly and probably just as good.

Would you mind sharing the cost?

Significantly more than the $800 that someone mentioned in this thread. I suggest that you contact her directly for current rates. She is in the "premium" cost category.

Ours edited the essays for grammar, kept dc on track with all deadlines, suggested colleges to apply to, etc. Totally worth it. We only paid $800 all-in though.

Would you be willing to share the counselor you used?

Thanks.

Same here.. Thanks!

Also, for others gracious enough to share counselor names, please also include the cost along with the description of services.

We have a rising senior and while we don't need help with college selection, would appreciate help with reducing the list to a manageable number and with essays.

OP, is this help with selecting small schools where "fit" is essential? Otherwise, not so useful.

If your kid is young enough that they still have space in their year for Marks Education, do that.
