I wish I had a mature fruit-bearing persimmon tree!

With gendered trees, it's always the female that stinks. Female ginko trees are the worst.

No, that’s the weird thing - I don’t see any fruit at all. I believe it is an Oriental persimmon, which apparently May fruit every other year? It looks like it’s just flowering this year.

Is there rotting fruit on it or under it? I have a peach tree and need to pick up fallen fruit every few days at peak or it rots and gets smelly. Birds/squirrels also eat parts of peaches on the tree and if they don’t fall down they can be on the tree rotting.

There is a persimmon tree in our front yard that quite literally stinks. It seems like rotting rodent or hot trash. At first I was miffed by the smell because we just bought the house about 6 months ago. After I ruled out every other thing in the front yard I realized it is the persimmon tree! Walking up to the front door or even being in the front yard since it’s gotten really hot is almost vomit-inducing. It’s that bad. At this point I want to just have it cut down but it’s a nice tree so I’m trying to be rational.

I tried to google this and a few people have had this issue. I don’t know if it’s the leaves that smell or if the tree is diseased or what? I read that you can use a fruit inhibitor to stop the fruit from growing (I don’t care about the fruit and would rather not have it) but does anyone know anything more about this from experience? Am I doomed to a yard that smells like garbage in the summer unless I have the sucker cut down?
