Ridemont Montessori in McLean announced to their parents that after 50+ years, they're closing for good. So sad.

On no! Can I ask which one?

Wow! I can’t believe this. Is the daycare portion staying open?

I think there are some daycare classes that are still operating, but they have had to lay off some daycare teachers too because the number of children that are still coming is very small. They ended both the morning program and afternoon bilingual program. I’m not sure what happened because the waitlists were always years long.

The full day program at Columbia is still going.

Some schools don’t have enough teachers (due to teachers quitting over health concerns or child care concerns), some don’t want to/can’t spread out in their space, some are cancelling the little kid/1-3 day a week classes to focus on the 4-5 day a week classes, allowing them to spread out more in the classrooms.

I havent heard from our half day school in a month and back then, the plan was unclear. I actually had a very detailed dream last night that they had decided to close, premonition perhaps, so I emailed them this morning to see if they had any further clarity. My child is supposed to be in the 4s class and so I want to send him/her.

[quote=Anonymous]Ours is half or full day and has made some crazy claims - saying basically that they will stay open no matter what except that they *might* have to close for 24 hours if a child or staff member comes down with Covid. They are saying no refunds whatsoever and that they are now a school for first responders and essential personnel. It’s not a daycare center and in all my time at this school with multiple kids I have never met a first responder or ER doctor so I don’t even know what they’re talking about. They’re also talking about bringing in kids from other schools for the extended day program. We’re opting out because I don’t trust their approach of opening no matter what and mixing all of these kids. [/quote

Yikes. I would avoid that one as well. Do you mind sgaring?

I realize this is up to each individual preschool to decide what their plans are. What have you heard from the preschools in your area?

I’ve heard that Burke Presbyterian will be closed all year for everyone, and Messiah CEP is only doing their 5 day a week classes for 4 year olds due to lack of teachers for the younger classes.
