Testing is the worst. DS got tested today so he can work with kids. He had outside dinner with someone who worked for a day with someone who tested positive. Asymptomatic guy. DS's contact tested negative and his whole household as well. CVS test is taking forever, so ds went to a different place. His test is negative, but place was full of sick people there for the reason of getting tested for corona bcs they are sick. This might mean that ds willingly exposed himself to a high risk environment to be cleared to work and bring in a negative test! Talk about utter stupidity! He has been in isolation for 10 days by that point, and has no symptoms at all.
This is in MD. If we had testing that was fast and accurate and did not expose you do covid, this would make sense. Now my ds is ok to go work this afternoon, but not 10 days ago.... after literary being in line with people that suspect they have covid!
How is ds not required to isolate now? No rhyme and reason. I am in favor of not testing preschool and daycare workers if we cannot do it without exposing them to the virus.

I think it makes sense to get tested. Yes, you could get it the next day, but testing means you’re not starting off the school year with an infection you didn’t know about. From then on, you’re committing to each other that you’re all in the same bubble. Makes sense to me.

especially when most tests are not rapid, they take 2-4 days to get a result.

Unless you’re going to test everyone weekly, it’s not effective.

Preschool teacher here. I would happily get tested if it would make parents feel better, but I do think it’s probably not going to help. Like you said, I could get infected the day after the test is administered and before results come in. Or I could get it week 3 while going to the grocery store. Or from a student.

No. But I don’t see the point. This would only help me feel better if everyone My kid has contact with their gets tested (ie other kids). The teachers at least are required to get masks, the kids aren’t. So, either everyone should get tested or no one. Why single out the teachers specifically?

A test doesn't give you that reassurance though. It just means they were negative at the point in time when you were tested.

I'm a director in DC and we are open. No test required for children or staff.

Our daycare is reopening on Monday. They did not require the teachers to get COVID tests under the rationale that a negative today, doesn't mean a negative test tomorrow. In other words, why test when they could hypothetically get it the next day?

Logically, this makes sense to me, and it probably does not impact me personally as we are holding our kids back for one more month, but wanted to see if this was normal? If I were sending my kids back on Monday, I think I would want more peace of mind that their teachers are all COVID free.
