Get a Tesla if you're ready to have a charger installed at your house. Otherwise charging will be a PITA. They've worked out the kinks in the Model 3 and Model S, I would get one of those.

Otherwise, I guess do the lease option. I'm guessing you already know about limitations on mileage and that isn't an issue. I might lease a less expensive car (or buy one that holds its value well, like a Civic/Accord or Camry) and put aside a little money regularly to eventually install a home charging system if you're serious about getting an electric car. I can't remember the exact quoted costs but it was several grand when we were considering it.

I have an old Lexus hybrid. I had planned to get a new car in a couple of years. I thought I might look at the new electric cars once they are past their initial model years and get the kinks worked out.

Best laid plans and all - my car needs an insanely expensive repair. It is almost, but not quite, the value of the car. Should I (a) repair the car and extend the time until I buy a new car; (b) lease a car and then stick with the original plan to buy in 3 years; or (c) buy a new car now, reducing the options for e-cars?

Thanks for any advice.
