Start looking now. If you find someone just have them start early. Everyone wants what you want and no good nanny/teacher is going to wait two months to start work.

I would start reaching out to potential sitters and have them come over for one day a week or something like that (even if you don't need it). You may not find anyone willing or able to do that, but I don't think it hurts to try and build relationships with people who might be able to help in the fall.

I don’t need care now since DH is home so I can’t hire someone(s) now to lock her down. Plus, it seems fruitless to identify a provider or people to start a share with since I don’t know which days my kids will be at school.

Other than hoarding cash to afford this nightmare, what should I be doing right now to prepare for fall?

I don't have any advice, but I am in a similar situation, and I'm not sure what I should be doing right now to prepare.
