Also make sure you have everything written down before accepting. I had a dealer say sure we will drop the dealer fee if you finance through us. Their interest rate was higher than what i walked in approved for but talked in a way as if they were going to match what I had. I barely caught it before accepting the final offer. Thank goodness! Before you accept, have them write down the final OTD and APR so you know exactly what you will be financing.

It is, indeed, important to keep that in mind whenever you see a new car price online. At a 20,000 price point the processing fee, destination fee and tax will add another $2,000 or so.

PPs saying negotiate the OTD are right.

just negotiate based on out the door price. However they want to calculate it at your end with random ass fees is not your problem.

You can negotiate it but FYI it's legally capped at 299 in Maryland

While I have never negotiated that fee, I pointed out to one dealer that their fees was higher than their competitor merely 20 miles away. It's the number game - just concentrate on the OTD price (all inclusive).

I see on several dealer web pages (for dealers located in VA) that processing fee is either $699 or $799. Was wondering if anyone here have been successful in negotiation a reduced processing fee or eliminate it altogether?
