Not surprising post on a forum in a place where the NFL team is still called the Redskins in this day and age.

But an executive order has nothing to do with what a private University chooses as names for it's schools and buildings.

Why would a president be able to sign an executive order limiting how a private university wants to name its buildings or schools?

I don't think Trump has any authority over the name of a private university's facilities. He can guard Andrew Jackson's statue on federal property all he wants.

The university did an extensive review of Wilson's record in 2015 in deciding then to reduce the number of references to Wilson on campus, but not rename the SIPA or the residential college.

Much has changed over five years. The turning point likely was the delivery of a letter to the Board of Trustees this month in which about 2/3 of the current graduate and undergraduate students at Woody Woo demanded the name change. They acted within a week of that letter.

The man was a virulent racist. It's one thing if Wilson had been just a casual racist common of his time, like FDR had been, but he was not and he was indeed virulent. It's no secret. So I'm not surprised.

I learned more about Wilson 5 years ago and am not sorry to see his name go.

Wilson intensified segregation throughout the federal government, the military, and DC. I hope that our understanding of US history will be more comprehensive as we move forward.

Was so interested to get this email today! I know very little about Wilson beyond his presidency and the League of Nations but trust Princeton. They have excellent historians. The email and previous statements have said Wilson was exceptionally racist, even for his time and place, and segregated the formerly desegregated civil service. I support the change.

Reaction from friends on social media seems positive, but I think anyone opposed or unsure of the move would be scared to say that publicly in this climate.
