There was an Inside Lacrosse podcast last fall where Corrigan basically admitted that the most of the spots on the teams are selected before the event even starts. That said, so long as the player goes into the event knowing the selections are rigged ahead of time, and just has fun, it’s a good event to attend.

Speaking only for the girls side...LI and update NY still haven't been scheduled. The West tryout is going to be in Mesquite, Nevada in the middle of July. Current temps there are 105+ degrees with threat of wildfires/hazardous smoke in the area. I know the West isn't a major player in the UA tourney (understatement) but I am concerned (shocked?) that UA is going to hold tryouts in 100+ degree temps. Also, as coronavirus numbers continue to spike in CA, TX, FL, AZ, etc I just don't see how bringing all these folks from around the country to MD in early August is such a great idea. Can't they hold off and have the tryouts/tourney later?

DC Command team won last year. For the '22's, DC is where it is at. So test your mettle at Troy Park on 7/13.

It was justified with the 22's. They played a lot on a strong team that barely lost in WCAC finals. This year they took down Landon and Prep. If he picks a bunch of SJC 23s this year (only one or two should make it), then your criticism is valid.

This year, D1s can't be there, and unless the tryouts are in close proximity to a coach's house, a number o DIIIs can't be there either due to travel restrictions.

Generally, this event is nothing more than a huge money grab for Corrigan. Very expensive, highly political. If you are not affiliated, with one of the divisional coaches, you have virtually no chance to make a team. Getting a good look by a coach at the tryout is also very difficult..there are so many players and many are playing with low IQ because they desperately want to be noticed. And, not all, but certainly some of the higher profile coaches are only on the sidelines to hang out. They barely watched the games.

DD has enjoyed it the last three years. Probably some politics to the process, but what in boys and girls lacrosse hasn't had a fair share of politics. But on the post on coaches attending, my guess is it will be 99 percent virtual or tape and not in-person given the NCAA's extension - and likely further extension - of the dark period. Here's to hoping it happens but seems unlikely given no specific tryout dates for our region.

Can only speak about the girls side, but have been told by those directly involved in the past it is very political. More about who you know. These same folks have said it can be a fun experience if you go in with these expectations. Much like the top clubs in the area their A teams are pretty much selected long before tryouts. Tryouts help find the 3-4 additions each year and even those considered for these spots are already on the coaches radars.

Doesn’t matter how good the player is if the player isn’t already known by those making the selection.

You won't make the team unless your coach is one of the coaches making the selection.

But it is fun.

So what is the deal? One team per age group or multiple? Worth it? Good opportunity? How competitive to make team?
