100% agree (and also a millennial). Never been a fan of gray, and while white can be pretty, every tiny spot shows so a pain to maintain. Don't get me started on white subway tile (bland). I am really happy to see natural wood and interesting tile come back into style. I do think the trend will be more towards California/organic look rather than Tuscan.

I'd like that kitchen in California. It would look out of place in most houses around here.


I wouldn't count on "tuscan" coming back, but a more ornate style with richer colors never really left. We don't have to go back to sponge paint and Pier 1, but we can happily spend time looking at John Saladino rooms for inspiration imo. I would happily live in any of those rooms today. Amelia Handegan is another good jumping off point.

OP, it's a style I loved and how we decorated when we bought our home twenty years ago. It lasted until just a few years ago since we don't have the budget to redecorate with every passing trend. Yes, we're now in the gray phase and it's amazing how calming it is after two decades of intense rich colors.

The light woodtone look of the kitchen a PP posted isn't my style but I agree it is light and airy.

Unless you are looking to sell in the next 3-5yrs I'm personally a fan of decorating for the current resident - YOU.

and that's exactly why I won't follow the newest kitchen fad. Remodeling a kitchen is expensive. I've gone through two in different houses. Just get the kitchen you want.

I don’t love That kitchen but it is very calming.

There will be a strong backlash against the monotone gray. I decorated in the “brown” period. Everything had to be brown and natural. That passed. Why brown? Why natural? It’s an apartment building! The same questions will be asked if the gray period. Was everyone depressed ? And so on.

Do you follow real interior designers? Grey everything has been gone for several years now. Some of the basic lifestyle bloggers are still doing the washed out thing.

Everything comes back around, but in updated ways. With the yellow and red, Kirklands-exploded-in-here look come back? Probably not. If you're looking for a slightly more rustic look and aged details, that's still around...just not in the early 2000s way.

OP, get the kitchen you want, not what you think others find "trendy". At some point, everything comes back with a more modern twist to it. I mean.. who would've thought that flowery dresses with poofy shoulders would come back, but it did.

I love the tuscan kitchen look, but a minimalist style, not the really gaudy ones.

I’m so so so tired of farmhouse and clean lines everywhere. I’m 34 so probably an outlier in my age group who still seems to be lapping up farmhouse. Will we ever go back to bronze, ornate finishes? Perhaps with neutral colors instead of all the jewel tones and reds Of yesteryear? A girl can dream!
