Ok I’ll chime in.

We have 2 girls, one who went to Potomac 4–12 grade and an older one who went to Langley till 8th and then a Big 3 for HS.

So Langley is a great school for K-8. We have had some awesome teachers and some meh. Thai is the same at Potomac.

What was good about Langley is it is focused on the younger grades and is very nurturing. Academics were good and parents were mostly friendly. We made many good friends here. The nice thing is there is lots of interaction with the 8th graders and younger kids through the Big Buddy Program. Also the 7,8th graders feel like they are leaders at the school unlike Potomac here they know there is a HS right next door.

Langley was great at the younger grades but my daughter felt that by 8th grade she was ready for a “bigger” school. But Langley was the right school for her. Would send her there again...

For my other daughter, she was more of stronger personality and wanted a “large” school feel from day one and lived the facilities at Potomac. Langley can not match the gyms and field space to Potomac. So if you want them to stay till HS, Potomac will be a better choice. Academics at both schools were similar.

We have some younger friends with a boy at Langley now and he just finished K and loved it...

It's totally true. These parents would kill to send their kids to Potomac.

OP here. Thank you for the replies. I didn’t realize this would turn into a Potomac/Langley battle.

Given the far more than 10% of the kids in Langley's Kindergarten class were there for PreK3 and PreK4 and therefore decided to stay, your comment is untrue on so many levels.

OP, Langley is a PreK-8 and Potomac is a K-12. Some people can't understand that (1) kids can attend Langley before they can attend Potomac, and therefore the school isn't littered with children who couldn't get into Potomac, and (2) some people prefer the Prek-8 model over the K-12 model.

What an obnoxious comment. Yet another Potomac parent making the school look bad.

K-8 believer here. Our kids went to Norwood but we also loved Langley. Langley is a great school and graduates move on to top schools in DC. For those who consider Potomac a goal, go for it. But there are Langley grads succeeding at STA, NCS, SFS, GDS, Maret...and at Potomac too. Our kids have made friends with Langley grads at two of these (neither of which is Potomac!)

The trolls who post that Langley is just for Potomac rejects is just trying to bait people here-don’t give them the satisfaction!! Also, it’s not like Potomac is perfect either people!

Langley is a great, warm and nurturing environment. They can accommodate most students and meet them where they are (whether they need a little hand holding or are gifted-I know both types thriving there). That being said it’s not a cut throat academic environment so if you’re a striver it may not make you feel like you’re getting your moneys worth.

I have heard mixed reviews about the distance learning last spring, but I can only imagine they will be stepping it up in the fall, especially if publics are doing the same.

Let's be honest. 90% of the kids that school wanted to go to Potomac but didn't get in.

And you can avoid sticking your child with Potomac for 13 years! Why do people do that?

Langley is an excellent school, and there are many great reasons why a family might choose a K-8 school like Langley over a school like Potomac. And then after graduating, go Potomac for high school if it is a good fit.

K-8 schools are not “less than” or backup choices. For many parents who educate themselves about the options available, they are the preferred choice.

We moved from DC before this year so I can't speak to the distance learning but our kids loved Langley while they were there! Great teachers and wonderful community. Our kids were happy as students and we were happy as parents. We would not have left had we not moved away.

I am looking for feedback on the Langley School for elementary (1st and 3rd). We are disgruntled FCPS parents and are looking at options for the 2020-21 school year if there is space anywhere. I'd be interested in others' experiences with distance learning as well as the regular school experience.
