I made the mistake and planted them in an area with full sun after 12 pm. are they gonna survive? They dont look too good right now, looks like they are dying.

We were actually renting out our house this year so I have no idea if anyone did anything to it. I ten to this not based on everything else being minimally cared for. So I think I will leave it to its own devices.

I have three “Little Limelights” and a huge “Strawberry Vanilla,” which both grow on “new wood” so can be pruned in Fall and still bloom in Spring. They are not blooming yet but will be gorgeous in a month. If you have an older variety (traditional) it probably grows on “old wood” so yeah, they won’t bloom this year.

Op here, These are the typical ones you see, pink flowers. I will research to see if I can be more specific.

If you want them to be big and you can get over the color, limelight hydrangeas will grow anywhere as far as I can tell, although they might prefer more sun. They are really tall with big, cone shaped blooms that start white and turn green. They bloom around July 4th for me and they look spectacular until the frost.

They are going along a driveway next to the east side of the house so my inclination is the bigger the better? The area gets some morning sun but most of what I’ve tried to grow there has failed for lack of sun. I haven’t tried measure it but I’d say maybe 3-4 hours of sun? Hoping for blue, but recognize that may depend on soil (or soil additives)?



Our Anabelle hydrangeas bloom profusely and well, but in an area that gets more sun. We have two other hydrangeas in shady or semi-shady spots that have healthy leaves but rarely if ever bloom. Also, I believe Anabelles are the only ones whose color can't be changed. Most will change from white or pink to blue with the addition of a particular chemical compound (sold at Home Depot), but these will remain white.
