It's amazing - but not surprising I guess - that a 5 year old playing a tambourine in their yard is seen as "a selfish kid" on this board. Sigh...

Well, because we live in a small space and it would be too loud inside the house and plus it's a gorgeous day. We do have lots of nearby neighbors, but if the neighbors are inside their home, I think they would hear it, but just barely. If they were hanging outside, they'd definitely hear it.

Well at any rate, he didn't play for long, maybe 10 minutes. But I often wonder if they are making too much noise outside and our neighbors are bothered by their whelps and hollering. But I feel like there is not much else they can do, and they have been told that they can not do so many things, like go see their friends, go to the zoo, etc.

How close are you? Do any of your neighbors do shift work? Why don't you let him play inside your house? If you find it too loud, the neighbors probably do as well.

A child's tambourine drum is nothing like a full drum kit. It's not comparable.

At 7 a.m. or midnight, or any time with a full drum kit, or a bass drum from a marching band? Maybe not.

You are probably fine during normal business hours, but to be nice, perhaps ask your immediate neighbors on both sides (and in back if applicable) if it is bothering them and that at any point they can request that it stop.

Its a free country and he's on your property in the daytime. Go for it. Get him a harmonica and a recorder, too.

It's tough-so many people are working from home now, so that does make it tougher. Normally I wouldn't care at all, but it is kind hard to have calls/meetings at home with a ton of outside noise. But, I would never say anything unless it was for a really long time.

I wouldn't mind at all. I have a 5 year old who makes lots of noise.

I can guarantee you that someone will complain and criticize though, sadly. But let them - let's let the 5 year olds be 5 year olds.
