Ihad two polyps removed today. My period started on june 3rd and the doctor suggested I do it on the 11. It was a pretty simple procedure. I went shopping after until my husband dragged me home to rest. I feel fine with just spotting which I expected.

I had a uterine polyp removed and got pregnant but with IVF. Due to male factor we had to move straight to IVF.
Unless they leave scarring it shouldn't prevent an embryo from implanting.

It depends on your doc. I actually had my D&C on 5/17/10 which was day 3 of my period. I was worried that they wouldn't want to perform the surgery but was told due to some women's cycles being irregular they perform the surgery anytime its convenient for patient and doctor. Hope that helps.

I am the OP and am happy to say that I got my first positive pregnancy test following IVF just a few weeks ago! I know having the polyp contributed to the success of the IVF. As an aside, my acne that was horrible for almost 2 years has pretty much completely resolved now that the polyp is removed. I think the added hormones from the circulating estrogen may have been causing that problem.

I was just diagnosed with a polyp about 7mm long and will have it removed next week. My doctor said that a polyp acts as a natural IUD and once it is removed should significantly improve my odds of becoming pregnant. He said that if I did not become pregnant within a few months of having it removed, I should go back for another appointment. I guess that this suggests that I (or someone), could become pregnant a few months after a polyp is removed.

I had a polyp removed and eventually conceived naturally (I am in my second trimester now), although it took over 2 years. However, my husband was deployed to Iraq for some of this time. Minus his deployment time, I would say conceiving naturally took about a year after the polyp removal. My doctor's theory was that the polyp was inhibiting implantation. Once removed however, he thought I had unexplained infertility. We decided to give it a year before starting IUI and got pregnant naturaylly the cycle before we were scheduled to start!

OP here. I have read similar things about polyp removal and subsequent successful pregnancies...I am optimistic about it. I actually had the polyp removed today, surgery was very easy, with just some minor period-like cramps afterwards. Good luck to you!

After 3 early stage miscarriages (all within first 7 weeks), I underwent an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) which showed a very small shadow and then had an ultrasound which showed nothing. Every test my husband and I took turned out normal (including chromosomal). Our doctor suggested a hysteroscopy. Just had it done today. They found a fairly large polyp (about an inch long). He is pretty sure this could be what caused me to continue to miscarry. Best of luck to you. With everything I've been reading, it seems that uterine polyps can cause miscarriages and removing them significantly increases your chances of getting/maintining a pregnancy. My doc also recommended a baby aspirin and I will probably also be on Endometrin (Progesterone). Keeping all of you in my prayers.

I had a polyp removed and was pregnant 4 months later (Clomid IUI).

I had many uterine polyps discovered during a hysteroscopy. A D&C was done. I also have stage IV endo, and because of damage from that disease, I had to proceed straight to IVF. I was successful the first time (and if it had only been for the polyps, we would have gone on to try naturally after the D&C). Anyway, in my case, once they were dealt with, I seemed to have no lingering issues related to them.

No personal experience with it, but my dearest friend is now pregnant after unexplained secondary infertility (I think they tried for 1.5 yrs). This summer she was diagnosed with uterine polyps and the doctor explained it was a very common cause of IF. She had the polyps removed and became pregnant on her 2nd post-procedure cycle. I don't know how common that is, but it may be worth discussing with your doc and holding off on the IVF.

Hello - I am 32, have been TTC for 2+ years and have "unexplained infertility." I was about to start my first IVF cycle this month and my doctor performed a sonohystogram which showed a uterine polyp. I am going to have it removed next week. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and then was able to conceive naturally after the polyp was removed? I am thinking about waiting a few cycles to start IVF, in case this could have been the cause of my unexplained infertility all of these months (not to mention the reason my previous IUIs may have failed!). The dr. said there is also a chance this is a fibroid, not sure if that makes any difference with achieving pregnancy after it is removed. thanks in advance for any insight.
