Found it. "Similarly, MCPS is working closely with state and local health officials around opening child care in school buildings."
That sounds like it's another case of waiting on Dr. Gayles. He seems to be the reason Montgomery Parks playgrounds didn't open up last Friday too. They also said they were waiting on guidance from county health officials.
Fair enough. What would be helpful is to know what the criteria are for opening child care facilities in schools. Is it tied to the start of school? Is there, as PP said, a possibility those child care providers won't open again? And if it's Dr. Gayles who is blocking this, then he should stand behind his decision and explain it. It looks like they are having a "virtual town hall" tonight on child care, but "space is limited" (on Zoom???) and the event is already full.

Well as far as I can tell providers are opening daycares that are not in MCPS faculties and keeping ones in MCPS buildings closed. How/when did they "signal" this?

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:MCCA? If this is true and they can’t open until September then I have to think they are done for, unless MCPS waives all lease and other charges for the foreseeable future. Even then they would lose all their staff most likely.
OP here. Not MCCA. I'm not getting this information from my provider. I was just looking at the CUPF website and it says "MCPS has given notice that their indoor facilities will not be available for community use until after September 15, 2020, because of their need to maintain control and use of their facilities so they can close out the school year and develop planning for the Fall educational programming." It also says they are refunding leases which I think has been the case this whole time - they're not charging for space that is closed.
My provider has mentioned they lease the space through CUPF. Honestly MCPS, if you're making a decision that results in people losing their child care for 2-3 months, maybe give a better explanation, because this one sounds like total BS. wtf.
