Can you send the four year old with a life vest? Tbh I wouldn’t be able to handle that either.

No. If nothing else you won’t be able to relax while they are gone at all.

Go with them and generally make yourself scarce.

Yes. Get a room for you and DH. I would let her be alone with them for some things but if she’s taking them in or near water you or DH must be present.

I’d be excited though to have a night out with DH after the kids go to sleep.

Of course not but I know how hard it is to watch two kids this age at the pool. They need eyes on them every second. Drownings can happen in a minute or two and lifeguards, in my opinion, are not to be counted on when it comes to kids this age. She often mixes up dates in her mind raising kids and has unrealistic expectations like my just turned 4 year old couldn’t drown because he’s done swim lessons for a few years. Yes, he’s done swim lessons but he cannot swim 100 percent and needs to be supervised every minute. She’s kind of the type that would get out and grab her phone to take pics and leave them on the steps for a few minutes if that makes sense.

Hell to the no. Read the second bullet point below.
From the CDC:
-The leading causes of injury death differed by age group.
For children less than 1 year of age, two–thirds of injury deaths were due to suffocation.
-Drowning was the leading cause injury death for those 1 to 4 years of age.
-For children 5 to 19 years of age, the most injury deaths were due to being an occupant in a motor vehicle traffic crash.

I have two kids. 1.5 and just turned 4. Grandmother went ahead and rented a hotel on the beach with a pool to take them for one night. She’s a little absent minded. I won’t get into too many details but she did this to have an overnight with them because they cannot stay at her home (she has a roommate and it’s not negotiable). Aside from the covid concerns I am concerned with her ability to watch two young kids in situations like that. She’s a little absent minded and they cannot swim. She’s very old school in the sense that she thinks “a lifeguard is watching” ... what would you do? She went ahead and booked it without clearing it with us first. It’s a thoughtful gesture because she wants to spend time with the kids but a lot about this situation has given me some anxiety.
