I agree. I grew up in Orange county and only knew a handful of people with a pool. My parents live in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo area) now and live in a community with a pool.

If you are renting, sure get a pool. Carmel Valley is east of the 5 Freeway which means it will be hotter. Your kids will love it while they are getting settled.
