Subject: Question about the use of pronouns
Having hashed this out with a couple of queer linguist friends on facebook a year or two ago, the consensus that we came to is that it is for emphasis purposes. Put the extra syllables in so that it doesn't go unnoticed.

This. It’s just the easiest way to cover all your bases.

Subject: Question about the use of pronouns
I've always wondered about why people use the full gamut of pronouns: she/her/hers, he/him/his, and they/them/theirs. Wouldn't just saying she or he or they be sufficient because we can then extrapolate that that someone who says their pronoun is she also would be referred to as her and hers, etc? Would anyone do she/him/his?
To be perfectly clear, I'm not anti-pronoun usage at all. Just curious what the need is to add the additional pronouns...if there's a specific reason for that?
