She will be put on a team based on aggression level followed by speed and size.

Not true. If you actually watch Arlington teams play, they are strong on technique and ball possession.

Not the top boys teams that I have seen play. A huge player pool with lots of athletes. Not much development at early ages and then a lot of imports for top teams at older ages. At least before they decided to go to ECNL instead of new MLS. Hopefully they can retain the DA coaches and they can have more impact on coaches of younger teams.

I have two sons who started U9 last year - it is intense. The focus is not on fun, at least on the boys side. But, my sons like competition and they don't complain about the hard work they have to put in. We made sure they understood that they would practice 3 nights a week and play on weekends and that it wouldn't be optional once we paid. If you think you (if there is a season you will have to volunteer for something) and she are ready for that commitment, it's a good program - my sons have improved a lot.

I read it the same way. Putting her on a team based on her skill level is part of travel soccer. Given the circumstances it is difficult to do so therefore they are putting her in an accepted pool of players and will sort that out as things open up and players can be assessed on the field

Does that mean that there is another round of tryouts/cuts before a final decision is made? We sent in DD's video tryout on kind of a whim, thinking that we'd have a while to talk to other families and figure out if "travel" soccer is even a reasonable concept for kids that young, but they want an answer within 72 hours.

DD is fast and certainly better at ball handling than I was at that age, but I just want her to have fun - I'm leery of the intense soccer culture that seems prevalent in NoVa. So maybe I'm looking for more than just help interpreting the email?

It reads to me that she will be placed on a travel team but with limited tryouts they are not yet willing to say what the team placement will be.

Lots of kids are gonna be in this spot.

Actual team assignment will likely have to wait.

Ah, OK thank you. I read the FAQs and it sounds like there are 6 (!!) teams for the youngest age group. Are there any kids left playing in the rec league? I was leaning towards skipping it for now, but that's a lot of kids who will be siphoned away from rec.
