That doesn’t mean that some drugged out loser can weave through it for hours on end.

This why it would be better to have half the cops and double the psychiatric social workers. We need some of each in our society but right now the ratio is out of whack. I have worked with some amazing social workers who can deescalate really tough situations. That's not going to work if the guy runs up with a gun or something,.and even they have had to call law enforcement at times, but it's rare.

Couldn’t law enforcement have tried to deescalate for however long it took?

The guy was on drugs

If this guy was walking down my neighborhood street I would probably fear for my life shoot him if the cops didn't come. The guy walks up aggressively, imagine if your children were playing nearby. This is the right way to remove someone, what are they supposed to do?

The second cop just immediately tased. The guy wasn’t looking in this direction, and the cop didn’t give him a warning. The guy appeared to be unarmed and there was no justification to tase him, pin him on the ground and beat him.

“Protect and serve” includes people on drugs and people who are mentally and/or physically ill.

I cannot f-ing believe that someone would see this video and think tasing was reasonable, that the cop shouldn’t be charged, and that talking wouldn’t have helped. What is wrong with you?

Yeah, they don't really.

Have you ever looked into what the police academy training is and for how long? It's way too short and shallow to actually provide any real skills to people who don't start out with a really good skill set.

The ambulance and police should have just left the loon on the street and driven away.

So your uneducated opinion is why we need more training. I don’t expect you to understand because you are clearly not educated on how to respond to a medical emergency.

If this were an autistic man would you think it was a normal use of force.
If this were somebody with a diabetic reaction?

EMT have calls like this every hour. They don’t need a taser to get people in the midst of a medical emergency in an ambulance.

It’s pathetic you think it’s okay.

The repeated tazing seemed unnecessary. Even the first tazing is questionable. While a tazer is non-lethal, that is only with a healthy individual. There is some risk assumed in using it on someone who is clearly altered.

The BWC footage shows that the man had just agreed to get into the ambulance when the second officer arrived and immediately tased him. If I understand the press release correctly, the first officer was also suspended. That is unfortunate as he seems to have been doing a good job to deescalate. But the second officer's behavior was absolutely barbaric.

I like how the cop fired his taser first thing, without even attempting anything else. It’s almost as if some cops have no other “skills”.

https://fcpdnews.wordpress.com/2020/06/07/fcpd-officer-charged-with-assault-against-community-member/

Please watch the video of a man in the street talking incoherently as an officer tries to get him to go in an ambulance to get medical attention. Then I do not have the words for what the charged person suddenly comes up and does to the man.

Click on BWC footage at the bottom of the release.

I appreciate the swift charges. I hope they follow through. But this did not need to happen this way in the first place.
