My child is enrolled at a private DC preschool that is not reopening until September. The way their payment plan works, everyone has paid the year in full by May. They just announced they will refund 40% max of the 3 summer months for those who request it; otherwise they are keeping our money. It sucks especially if you have more than one kid there. It's a lot of money and most parents are having to outsource childcare now since remote learning for preschoolers is a joke.

If you are not guaranteed a spot and you have a child over 3, I wouldn't worry about it. You can find a spot for older kids, but the infant/toddler is what is hard. If they will guarantee a spot, yes, but otherwise no.

PP here, it is $2k/month, not sure if we want to continue to pay it without sending DC in. DC is 4.

Ours has been open for essential workers but charging regular families tuition. A couple families balked and pulled their kids out, but most of us have continued to pay to keep our spots. It’s a bit ridiculous but I don’t feel like we have many options right now.

Ours is opening in July and requesting partial tuition if you're not sending your child but want to reserve the spot for the summer. My understanding is that they do this normally for the families that take the summer off, too (we have a lot of families where one spouse is a teacher).
Also, I believe stimulus money/loan money runs out in July.

Yes, ours did for the two weeks in March and April, and will ask tuition from July 1.

Paying 100% for the last month or two for year long preschool Programs Even though they were closed was common.
50% rate while they are closed is common for daycare - it helps them know if you plan to come back and cover basic costs.
I have not heard of a place that is still totally closed and asking for 100%.
