Is this still going on?

Our son has participated in many 3v3 and 4v4 tournaments since his rec years (rising u18 now). Competition can vary wildly - he’s been on teams that have gotten completely blown out and other times they have blown out the competition. It’s a great format though, very fast paced games with lots of scoring usually. One of the biggest tips from his experiences is to have players that can not only score, but also defend- possession turns over so quickly, they have to be able to switch over to defending the second they lose the ball (or it will be a very long day for them- as some of his teams found out lol) His more successful teams tended to have mostly midfielders- it definitely teaches them to work together with overlapping/combination passing. Also, do not let one of them camp out in front of the goal as a quasi goalie- all players are needed in the attack. Bring multiple pop up tents/chairs and make a camp for them in between their games to rest/recharge

It is scheduled to go on in mid-July. Who knows what will happen with it.

Would the tournament still going to be on this summer?

It's fun regardless and there are different tiers if the tourneys are robustly populated. Getting a group of six together is good for scrimmaging as you practice. 4 is ideal team size in most situations but we've also played with six and simply do line shifts through the day. It's all for fun unless you are looking to grab trophies. We've had really good weekends and really tough weekends and frankly the kids did not feel that much differently in either case

Hot weather, no less than 5 players. Under 80*, 4 players.

3v3 IMO develops soccer IQ tremendously and the earlier you can start, the better.

By U13 however, the competition level drops.

Their have been multiple National Champions on both the Boys and Girls sides from the DMV.

If you do research, you will find that many players who won National Championships in early childhood have gone on to play for US National teams and D1 schools.

The absolute best part is that the kids absolutely love it!

Yeah, my daughter loves 3v3, and her teams have been pretty successful. We have always liked to have 6 kids to keep them fresh. With the games being in the summer the kids get tired pretty quick. If you add in the fact that kids have missed the last few months due to covid 19, i would want an extra sub as I would assume soccer fitness might still be lacking at any early tournaments.

You definitely want at least 5, if not 6. It’s a very fast paced game and you usually only have a 30 minute break in between games.

3 is definitely not enough. The summer heat will wipe out the 3 in no time. As previously stated 5 is ideal. Max 6

5 is a good number. Allows for 2 subs.

Should teams be only 3 kids, or should you have at least one sub as well? This is unclear from the website.
