They typically are one month to two month deposits not year. Relax.

The flood of parents needing spots is about to happen. If you want to lose all of the socialization and programming for your four year old listen to some of these people who say get a nanny. What a shame for a child going to Kindergarten in a year. BTW a nanny is not more safe. If anything you get less consistency and programming from a nanny and they can go anywhere just like a center. At least the center forces teachers to take temperature, wear masks and gloves, cleans heavily, and had backup of a teacher needs a day. Your nanny will not be able to handle that. Good luck to those naive enough not to retain or get a spot for the fall.

PP and OP - is this PK4? I am considering pulling my 4 year old out of preschool and getting a nanny (we have 3 kids), but worried that pulling him out of school the year before K is a mistake. He's been in group care his whole life so used to longer days, but I am concerned that he will miss out on academics (like pre-reading and handwriting). Zoom instruction is not effective for him. What is your plan?

I'm in a similar situation with my 4 and 7 year olds. Pulling out the younger one and keeping the older one enrolled.

Don't know what your finances are like but it would be cheaper to quit my job and take care of DC than to pay for preK plus care when preK isn't in session. I understand there are other considerations like job seniority, enjoying your job, and the social learning that goes on in PreK, but quitting your job could be a last resort. A different PreK, nanny, nanny share, daycare,....

I wouldnt commit if my finances were borderline. I would wait and see if they or someone else had an opening later. This is with some job flexibility.

I would commit if my job were NOT flexible and i or dh could not watch dc (i would need that spot for peace of mind) . I would also commit if i had the money comfortably to pay and for backup days.

Our Pre-K is forcing us to commit now (nonrefundable) to the next academic year, in full, with no possibility of refunds if we're not in person. We don't even know how much they'll be in class so we'd probably have to have backup care at least for some of the time (the school might do only half time or alternate days in class to reduce the number of kids). Is it crazy to commit now?? We're not very rich and this place is expensive...
