No.

It's a leadership position but "honors" really refers to academic honors.

It's a dime a dozen EC. Meaningless. Literally millions of kids are captain of something.

To me, it would depend on whether you listed it elsewhere. If there's another question about "leadership experiences" for example, I'd put it there. If not, then I'd put it under honors.

It depends on how many things you want/have to put in your application.

If you have a huge number of "leadership roles" it might be an "honor".

If you have a large number of academic honors it is more likely a leadership role.

Part of it depends on how good DC is at baseball.

Captain is most likely not an "honor" if he was MVP of his state region.

It is certainly an "honor" if he only made varsity as a senior and was platooned at his position.

For a platooned player to to be a captain is really difficult.

Without getting too deep into details for a certain case, the point of the application is to convey DC's activities in the best possible way.

The are no application police who are going to second guess (and penalize DC) what each line means to your DC.

Whatever.

At my kid’s high school, any kid with a 92 weighted or higher and no suspensions was automatically a member of NHS as a junior. To stay in it was a senior, you had to get 15 service hours senior year.

PP at 07:54 is correct. Sports leadership is for the sports category.

DD was voted captain for three varsity HS sports. Noted in the leadership category. Awards from athletic director, booster club and faculty/coaches, etc, were noted in Honors.

No, its not an "Honor". Its a leadership role. For sports, an "honor" would be an award of some sort, like MVP or best sportsmanship, etc. The Honor category on college applications is for awards.

My daughter put it in the honors section of her app because it was voted on by her peers and coaches. I would put it.

Do you mean on a college application? Is there a spot for leadership roles? That’s where I would put the basketball captain role. Honors would be for academic honors. Use the essay option to work in the basketball leadership.

It is certainly an honor! But I’m not so sure that’s the kind of honor they mean.

A question on DC's application is whether he has received any honors in high school. He was the captain of the varsity basketball team of his school. Should he answer "yes" or "no" to this question?
