Del. Jennifer Carroll Foy (who represents PWC and Stafford) announces today she’s running for Governor. She’s an interesting candidate for many reasons: 1) she’s a native Virginian from Petersburg so has ties to the Petersburg/greater Richmond area which probably gives heartburn to Levar Stoney who has been rumored to want to run, 2) she went to VMI in the 3rd class that accepted women, 3) she was a public defender, 4) she won her delegate seat by 14 votes in a race the press all said she couldn’t win all while pregnant with twins, and 4) she has done what many people (including myself) have often thought about, thinking that the establishment of candidates who get elected seem to be doing a terrible job and maybe I could do it better; she actually had the guts to run for office and she won.
Don’t know enough about her record yet to say right now whether I would vote for her but what I’ve read so far I do like. Announcing now seems smart given that rumors have been Fairfax, Gillespie, Mark Levin and the mayors of Richmond and Alexandria were considering running on the democratic ticket.
