Same with my razor!

Literally their entire business model, so makes sense. HP is particularly annoying about using genuine cartridges though. My HP will some times act as though a genuine cartridge is not, meanwhile my Canon and Brother printers will readily accept generic.

This will be my last HP.

This is a MF color laser FYI.

And if they're not HP cartridges, I get that message. But it does still print eventually.

Good afternoon! I would truly recommend you check mrdepot website. This is an online store that offers a lot of printing staff for a very good price. They even have sales. Do, you can order a cartridge with free shipping. I always use this service to buy cartridges for the office.

My aforementioned crap-ass HP cost $39 at Walmart. I've since spent approximately $1 trillion on cartridges.

I ended up replacing the printer head. I think it was about $80. Think I’ve had the printer ~10 years.

Lucky you! Mine won’t print. So in my case it was extreme marketing. I think HP probably decided that I wasn’t replacing my cartridges fast enough. Time to research printer options.
Rant out.

I've gotten that message with my crap-ass HP printer -- but it still prints. I always considered the message to be just marketing.

Just venting. I have an old but reliable HP printer. When I tried to print something, I got a message that said that the printer would only work with an authentic HP cartridge. Not only was this purchased as an HP cartridge -- and appeared to be authentic as far as I can tell, I've used the printer with this cartridge before. It's not enough that the cartridges are expensive -- now this! I've tried replacing it, cleaning it, replacing it and realigning it, and still, when I print, I get that message. Bah humbug!
